Family Activity Days in 2010
This year we are holding over 20 events for families at London’s
best kept secret garden. These will be held in all of the school holidays
in 2010 and some are repeated and aimed at different age groups, for
your convenience.
If you are (or know) a budding photographer, forensic scientist, naturalist,
artist, or just love chocolate then read on…

Introduction to Wildlife Gardening
A perfect chance for you to learn how to turn your garden or windowsill
into a wildlife reserve. Explore habitats in the Garden, plant some
seeds and discover inventive ways to make homes and feeders for a
variety of garden creatures.
Ages 7+: Tues 16th February, 10:30am-2:30pm

Garden Safari & Pondlife Paradise
If you enjoy discovering creatures, poisonous and insect-eating plants
then this day is for you. A chance to explore the hidden secrets of
the Garden including the jungle room and the creatures living in the
pond, including the chance to pond dip (11 April only).
Ages 4-6: Wed 17th February, Thurs 5th August, 10:30am-12pm
or 1-2:30pm
Ages 7+: Sun 11th April, 10:30am-2:30pm

Chocolate Tuesdays
Join us to celebrate our local hero, Sir Hans Sloane, who brought
the recipe for milk chocolate back from Jamaica. We’ll look
at his travels to the Caribbean, writings, plants, music, art, as
well as the history and science of chocolate. The day will include
craft activities, planting and chocolate tasting.
Ages 7+: Tues 6th April, 1st June, 17th August, 10:30-2:30pm

Creepy Crawling
Discover the diverse world of animals with Vic Taylor from Mynewt
Enterprises who will demonstrate his wonderful collection of creatures
including a hissing cockroach, giant millipede, corn snake, giant
African snail and a tree frog called Mr. Jelly Belly.
Ages 7+: Thurs 8th April, Tues 3rd August, 10:30am-2:15pm
Ages 4-6: Wednesdays 14th April, 11th August, 27th October, 10:30am-12pm
or 1-2:30pm

Art of the Garden
Spend the day exploring and creating art and craft inspired by the
Garden try out printing, dyeing, painting, and model making.
Ages 4-6: Thurs 3rd June, 10:30am-12pm or 1-2:30pm For ages
7+: Sun 8th August, Tues 26th October 10:30-2:30pm

Paper Stixx & Metal Bashing FULL
UP
We welcome the return of this popular activity run by artist, inventor
and designer Darcy Turner. A great opportunity to have a go at making
wonderful sculptures to take home or discover hidden talents and seeing
paper in a different way. This day includes crafts. See www.darcyturner.com

Backyard Biodiversity Day
Join us to celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity with a
range of activities including tips on wildlife gardening, pond dipping,
microscopy, investigating invertebrates and bird watching. We will
also be exploring the Garden’s glasshouses and digging for worms
in the compost heaps. Ages 7+: Thurs 12th August, 10:30am-2:30pm

Garden Photography
Bring your camera or camera phone along to capture the garden in striking
and unusual ways. Advice on lighting and composition will be available,
plus the chance to have some of your pictures displayed on our online
photo gallery. Pictures from last year's event can be seen in our
photo gallery.
Ages 10+: Wed 18th August, 10:30am-2:30pm

CSI Chelsea: A Forensic Biology Workshop
Do you fancy yourself as a detective, or realise how nature can help
in solving mysteries? Spend a day solving a crime and discover some
handy tips from nature. This day is perfect for young scientists and
includes some role-play. We’ll be joined by Amoret Whitaker,
a real forensic scientist, from the Natural History Museum who will
share some of her experiences with us.
Ages 9+: Thurs 19th August, 10:30am-2:30pm

Crafty Christmas Creations
Join us to create sensational seasonal decorations, presents and beautiful
cards out of natural and recycled materials.
Ages 6+: Tues 21st December, 10:30am-12pm or 1-2:30pm
