Summer Family Activity Days 2007
By request, we have now expanded the age groups to whom these activity days are available: 4-7, 7-11 and 11-14 year olds.
Monday July 30th ‘Wild about the Garden’ -for
4-7 year olds. 1030am-12 or 1-230pm
If you enjoy discovering creatures, and insect eating plants then
this day is for you. You will have a chance to explore some of the
hidden secrets of the garden including the creatures that live in
the pond!
Tuesday July 31st ‘Wild about the Garden’ -for
7-11 year olds. 1030am-2pm
Explore the more hidden secrets of the garden including the pond and
spend a whole day in the life of one of the marvellous and often forgotten
Garden creatures. The day will include craft drama and games as you
discover a whole new world of senses and behaviour!
Wednesday August 8th ‘Wildlife Gardening’ -for
ages 7+. 1030am-230pm
If you like wildlife then this is a perfect chance for you to learn
how to turn your garden or balcony into a mini reserve for wildlife.
Explore habitats in the Garden, do some planting and discover other
inventive ways to make homes and feeders for garden wildlife. The
day will include craft and games.
Thursday August 9th ‘Paper Stick Sculptures &
Metal Bashing’ -for ages 7+. 1030am-230pm FULL

This summer we welcome the return of this popular activity run
by Freelance artist, inventor and designer Darcy Turner. This is a
great opportunity to have a go at making some wonderful sculptures
to take home or just have a go discovering new talents and seeing
paper in a different way. This day includes crafts. See

Tuesday August 14th ‘Dyes and felt making’ -for
7-11 year olds. 1030am-230pm FULL

Discover the hidden secrets of colour from plants! Try out simple
dyeing techniques, and make camouflage, and art works using batik,
and tie-dye. FULL UP
Use the Garden as inspiration to make beautiful felt pieces to take
home.
Wednesday August 15th ‘Art in the Garden’ -for

Explore creative activities outside in the garden, including soil
painting, collage and casting.
Wednesday August 22nd ‘Art in the Garden’ -for

Spend the day creating art and craft inspired by the Garden try
out printing, painting, and model making. The day will touch on the
wonderful art of Victorian kinetic toys making some of your own to

Thursday August 23rd ‘CSI Chelsea: A Forensic Biology
Workshop’ -for ages 9+. 1030am-230pm

Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a detective? Or realised how nature
and some rather special creatures can help solving mysteries? Spend
a day solving a crime and discover some very handy tips from nature.
This day is perfect for young scientists and includes some role-play.
We will be joined by a real forensic scientist, Amoret Whitaker from
the Natural History Museum who will share some of her experiences
(and maggots) with us.
