Summer Family Activity Days 2009

Our Family Activity Days will take place on eight days in August this year.

Tuesday 11th August, 1030am-230pm
‘CSI Chelsea: A Forensic Biology Workshop’ for ages 9+
FULLY BOOKED
Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a detective? Spend a day solving a crime and discover some very handy tips from nature. This day is perfect for young scientists and includes some role-play. We will be joined by a real forensic scientist, Amoret Whitaker from the Natural History Museum who will share some of her knowledge with us. FULLY BOOKED

Wednesday 12th August, 1030am-12pm or 1-230pm
‘Garden Safari’ for 4-7 year olds

If you enjoy discovering creatures, and insect eating plants then this day is for you. You will have a chance to explore some of the hidden secrets of the garden including the jungle room and the creatures that live in the pond.

Thursday 13th August, 1030am-230pm
‘All about the pond’ for ages 7+

Explore the wonderful world of the pond with an in depth look at who’s who as well as the chance to pond dip. Advice will be on hand to help you set up your own pond.

Sunday 16th August, 1030am-230pm
‘Art of the Garden’ for ages 7+

Spend the day creating art and craft inspired by the Garden try out printing, painting, and model making. The day will give you the chance to make your own Victorian toys to take home including a peep show. Please bring an old shoe box (with lid) with you.

Monday 17th August, 1030am-12pm or 1-230pm
‘Creepy Crawling’ for 4-7 year olds FULLY BOOKED

Discover something of the diverse world of animals with Vic Taylor from Mynewt Enterprises who will bring his wonderful collection of creatures including a hissing cockroach, giant millipede, corn snake, giant Madagascan snail and a tree frog called Mr. Jelly Belly. FULLY BOOKED

Wednesday 19th August, 1030am-230pm
‘Darwin’s Natural Adventures’ for ages 7+

A chance to discover some of Charles Darwin’s favourite plants and animals – including the Earthworm and the insectivorous plants. We will take you through the jungle room, give you a seed to plant and take home as well as explore the amazing variety of life in the garden (we have 5000 types of plant here).

Thursday 20th August, 1030am-230pm
‘Photographing the Garden’ for ages 7+

Bring your camera or camera phone along to capture the garden in unusual ways. Advice on lighting and composition will be available, plus the chance to have some of your pictures displayed on our online photo gallery.

Friday 21st August, 1030-215
‘Creepy Crawling’ for ages 7+

As above, plus a chance to explore the Garden and see some of the Garden’s own wildlife.

12.00-12.45 (on the full days). Please bring a packed lunch and an adult
