Summer Fair 2007

Fundraising Aim
The Summer Fair, on Sunday 24 June, was held to raise funds for the completion of our new Outdoor Study Centre, opened officially last year by Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra.

This area of the Garden is already a focal point for the important educational activities which are organised at the Garden. Around 2,500 schoolchildren, many from some of London's neediest boroughs, visit the Garden on school trips every year, and we aim to equip the Outdoor Study Centre so that they can make the most of their visit.

A 'living roof' is currently being planted, and many of the elements of the Centre have been constructed from recycled materials, to integrate the 'sustainable' message into activities organised for students. The aim is to install a solar panel powering IT facilities and microscopes for examining soil samples, all of which will facilitate the teaching of soil sciences, recycling, and waste management. The Centre is also designed to provide a dedicated area for the propagation of the Garden's own plants.

Thank you for all those that supported the Fair in spite of the weather!
