Sunday 25th August, 12-2pm

We are thrilled to host Botanical Boys for a Garden tour exploring the history of terrarium design, followed by a terrarium-building workshop where you will make your own living garden in a jar.

The first terrarium was developed by doctor and botanist Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward, and terrariums were first used commercially by renowned plant hunter Robert Fortune – two important figures in the history of Chelsea Physic Garden.

What you'll learn:

  • The fascinating story of how terrariums helped Britain become a global botanical trading power
  • How to build your own self-sustaining ecosystem of plants that thrive and take care of themselves
  • Layering and planting techniques
  • Basic aftercare skills

Botanical Boys also offer a 30-Day plant guarantee and ongoing plant-care support.

Ticket price includes entry to the Garden and a Kilner Jar terrarium to take home, with the option to upgrade to a glass egg on the day for £25 per person.

£5 from every ticket sold for this workshop will go directly to our Glasshouse Restoration Project.

Please note, there is no lift to the Gallery where the workshop will take place.
