Tuesday 15th October, 6-8pm

Our historic benefactor, Sir Hans Sloane, observed the use of cocoa beans mixed with milk as a remedy during his tenure as personal physician to the Governor of Jamaica.

Upon returning from the Caribbean, Sir Hans passed the recipe on to ‘several eminent physicians’ for ‘its lightness on the stomach and its great use in all consumptive cases’.

In honour of this noble invention – and because we still grow Theobroma cacao at the Garden –  we are thrilled to hold a very grown up ‘Chocolate Tuesday’ during Chocolate Week with craft connoisseurs Cocoa Runners.

Over the past decade, there has been a craft chocolate revolution quietly brewing. Around the world, small makers are seeking out the world's finest beans, sourcing them directly from small farmers and using this cocoa to craft single origin bars.

Prepare to taste a dozen single origin chocolates, pairing some with wine. Learn the secrets of how craft chocolate is made, and pick up pro tips to help spot the difference between mass chocolate and the real thing.

Between 6-7pm, the Physic Garden Café will serve supper consisting of a starter and a main course, with chocolate tasting commencing afterwards.

If you book a ticket including supper, please state whether you would like the meat or vegetarian options.
