Introduction to Botanical Painting Course
Chelsea Physic Garden is a very special place to learn botanical painting. With a living collection of nearly five thousand remarkable plants and centuries long connection to botanical art, the Garden offers endless inspiration for close looking, careful drawing and painting from nature.
Join botanical artist and Fellow of the Florilegium Society, Candida Groom, for a five-day introduction to botanical painting. This course is designed for anyone who would like to develop their skills, whether you are new to botanical art or looking to build confidence with the basics.
Over the week, Candida will guide you through the process of creating a botanical painting, from observing and measuring your specimen to drawing up your subject, thinking about composition and beginning to work with watercolour.
You will cover:
- Observation and measuring your specimen
- Drawing up your subject
- Composition
- Introduction to watercolour
- Colour mixing
- Brush techniques
Lunch at the Physic Garden Café is included each day and all materials will be provided, though if you prefer to bring your own please do.
Booking information
- Tickets are £600 per person for the five-day course, including lunch at the Physic Garden Café.
- This event will take place in our first-floor Gallery space, which unfortunately is not wheelchair accessible.
- The Garden opens at 10am, with the workshop beginning at 10.30am.
- There are no discounts for Friends of the Garden.
