The Glasshouse Restoration Project is not just about the repair of the historic structures, but also about how we can engage our community with the Garden. Our Volunteer Development Manager is responsible for recruiting and training our volunteers who provide valuable knowledge to our visitors.

People choose to volunteer for many different reasons including developing skills and making friends. We are very lucky to have the support of over 140 volunteers at the Garden. Our team help add value to our work and give us different skills and ideas. Their support means we’re a better place to visit.

Some of our volunteers help us in the steward role at the Garden. This is a really important volunteer for us. Our stewards help visitors find their way around the Garden and help them understand what they see. They also help us make sure our visitors and plants are safe.

“I enjoy the enthusiasm of our visitors to listen and learn. Often, they contribute with stories of their own which adds to the experience bringing interesting perspectives from around the world”- David, Tour Guide.

We are looking for new people to join us this autumn in the steward role. Chelsea Physic Garden will provide all training needed to perform this role, so it is a great opportunity for those with no prior experience.
