We are delighted that Chelsea Physic Garden Advisory Committee Chairman, Tony Kirkham, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Year’s Honours List 2020.

Author and arboriculturist Tony Kirkham’s passion for trees is well known, and he claims “looking at trees anywhere in the world” is one of his hobbies.

His career in horticulture started at a young age when he became a forestry apprentice aged 16. He went on to study tree management within urban and park environments, and then studied at Kew, broadening his horticultural knowledge.

Tony is now Kew’s Head of Arboretum, Gardens and Horticultural Services where he and his team manage 14,000 trees. He has completed several plant collecting expeditions around the world, introducing trees to Kew’s collection. In 2015 Tony was awarded Honorary Lifetime fellow of the Arboricultural Association recognising the significant and positive impact he has made to Arboriculture.

Tony Kirkham is generous with his time and knowledge and sits on several professional committees including the International Dendrology Society, Science and Education Committee, RHS Awards Committee and is a Vice Chair of the RHS Woody Plant Committee.

We are thrilled that Tony continues to share his knowledge with us as a Trustee of Chelsea Physic Garden, and as Chairman of the Advisory Committee.
