Plants Have Secrets: Digital Youth Project

In August 2022, ten young people took part in Chelsea Physic Garden’s second Plants Have Secrets digital youth project. For this year’s project the group made stop-motion films using real plant and craft materials.

The participants learned about plants that have a distinctive movement quality to them. These plants provided the perfect inspiration for the participants. They produced two films which personify plants that are part of Chelsea Physic Garden’s living collection.

The participants were extraordinarily creative and produced fantastic stories. After seeing the videos, you may see the plants featured in a completely different light. One film features an ant plant (myrmecophyte) that has a symbiotic relationship with plants. The other film features pitcher plants, which are carnivorous.
