Celebrating International Women’s Day
Celebrate International Women’s Day with Chelsea Physic Garden. This year we are celebrating the incredible artform of botanical painting and the amazing artist Elizabeth Blackwell.
Join Mary Ellen Taylor, Chair of Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium Society, for a painting and learning event to celebrate the ingenious 18th C. artist Elizabeth Blackwell. Blackwell used specimens from Chelsea Physic Garden to create 500 illustrations for the beautiful ‘A Curious Herbal’ published between 1737 and 1739.

Organiser
Mary Ellen’s love for flora and fauna began in the Galapagos Islands and The Andes before she studied botanical painting with The English Gardening School at Chelsea Physic Garden. She was the Diploma Course Manager at The English Gardening School for 7 years and also painted in her spare time. Most of her artwork focuses on the plant’s relationship to its habitat, from places close to her heart. Mary Ellen is a practicing artist and delivers courses and workshops in London and for Heckfield Place in Hampshire.
In 2020 Mary Ellen became the Chair of the Chelsea Physic Garden’s Florilegium Society.
