    Black History Month

Black Health and Wellness is the theme for Black History Month 2022, and we are delighted to be offering sessions for school groups focusing on Black contributions to our knowledge of plants, health, and wellbeing.

Schoolchildren will become apothecaries for the session as they explore traditional herbal healing techniques from different regions of Africa and the Caribbean. Together, we will celebrate the people whose knowledge has greatly benefitted humankind throughout history. Students will learn about everyday, useful objects that were invented and crafted by people in West Africa and celebrate the ingenuity of African and Caribbean people who have practiced sustainability for many years through creative discoveries.

Pupils will each have a booklet for sketching and notetaking throughout the session which includes themed activities for them to complete at home.

Workshops will be hosted from 3rd October 2022. KS1, KS2 and KS3 workshops are 2 hours, either 10am – 12pm or 1pm – 3pm. One hour Reception and Nursery sessions are available.

        Learning for Home Schooled Groups

Chelsea Physic Garden has a well established educational programme that celebrates the natural world. We provide unique, fun and valuable learning experiences that, not only meet national curriculum requirements, but provide a memorable day out.

However, due to current government guidelines we cannot offer our full range of home-schooled group learning sessions. The education team at CPG are currently offering three half-day sessions that have been designed to maximise the use of our outdoor space and ensure that we are able to maintain social distancing.

We can accommodate up to 27 people, 15 children and 12 adults. However, in order to adhere to social distancing, it might be necessary to split classes into smaller groups, some of which will have self-led activities.
