Horticulture for humankind

Chelsea Physic Garden has always championed the role that plants play in human life. Through the theme of ‘Horticulture for humankind’ we will do this in new and exciting ways.

A benefit to all humans

The Garden is celebrating the role of plants and their benefits for humans with talks, tours and panel discussions. Themes include the medicinal properties of plants and the mental health benefits of nature and gardening. We will highlight how this relationship has changed over time and question how humans will benefit from horticulture in the future.

Since 1673 Chelsea Physic Garden has occupied four acres of land on the edge of the Thames. First established by the Apothecaries in order to grow medicinal plants, this extraordinary garden in London has had wide reaching impact around the world.

Ahead of our 350th anniversary in 2023, the Garden has embarked on a major capital project to repair the Glasshouses at Chelsea Physic Garden, as well as to improve life under glass for our plant collections and enhance the visitor experience.
