Black History Month

Black History Month 2022 is all about Black Health and Wellness, and at Chelsea Physic Garden, we have been celebrating the healing powers of plants for almost 350 years.

This year, our special guest Jade-Ashleigh Jeffrey, who is an actress specialising in educational theatre, will be welcoming school groups to the Garden where, through a big dose of imagination and a multi-sensory immersive trail, students will be transported to key places and times in history.

On this journey, they will meet inspirational Black scientists and botanists. Through exploring the Garden with our team of workshop facilitators, pupils will discover these historic figures’ key contributions to health and botany that we continue to benefit from today. Students will have a chance to engage in discussions which encourage critical thinking about our shared histories and how this knowledge can inform our actions moving forward.

Each session will be tailored to the class’ key stage and each pupil will receive a Black History Month booklet full of activities for students to continue their learning in the classroom or at home.

Workshops will be hosted from 3rd October 2022. KS1, KS2 and KS3 workshops are 2 hours, either 10am – 12pm or 1pm – 3pm. One hour Reception and Nursery sessions are available.

        Learning for Home Schooled Groups

Chelsea Physic Garden has a well established educational programme that celebrates the natural world. We provide unique, fun and valuable learning experiences that, not only meet national curriculum requirements, but provide a memorable day out.

However, due to current government guidelines we cannot offer our full range of home-schooled group learning sessions. The education team at CPG are currently offering three half-day sessions that have been designed to maximise the use of our outdoor space and ensure that we are able to maintain social distancing.

We can accommodate up to 27 people, 15 children and 12 adults. However, in order to adhere to social distancing, it might be necessary to split classes into smaller groups, some of which will have self-led activities.

Prices can vary depending on workshop requests
