Marketing Manager

Position: 12 Month Maternity Cover, full-time.

Salary: £30,900.

About the role:
CPG is seeking a Marketing Manager (Maternity Cover) to deliver our ambitious communications and marketing strategy. The Marketing Manager will oversee the day-to-day management of the Garden’s communications channels, including email, paid and organic social media, website content, and press/PR enquiries. This role ensures that all marketing activity is efficient, effective, and aligned with the Garden’s objectives.
The Marketing Manager will design, deliver, and evaluate multi-channel campaigns that support the Garden’s strategic priorities, driving engagement, awareness, and measurable return on investment.
They will also oversee the planning and execution of seasonal and thematic campaigns connected to the Garden’s public programmes and activities.
As guardian of the Garden’s brand, the Marketing Manager will ensure all communications are consistent with the Garden’s house style, supporting colleagues across the organisation to produce materials that are accurate, professional, and on-brand.

About the role:
Chelsea Physic Garden (CPG) is London’s oldest ‘outdoor classroom’, with stories as powerful today as they were when the Garden was founded in 1673. With a footfall of circa 55,000 visitors and learners per annum, we are looking to develop a new audience strategy that aligns with CPGs vision, encompasses all our touchpoints as a conduit to sustain existing audiences and grow new ones.

We are seeking consultant to work with us to develop sequentially;
Phase 1 – Audience strategy
Phase 2 – Learning and engagement plan

This is an opportunity to understand the Garden, its audiences and its mission for the next 10-years. You will provide your expert knowledge and experience to review and recommend new aims and targets, improvements and potential facility requirements for CPG.

Horticultural Administrator

Position: Part-time, 17.5 hours per week.

Salary: £13,259.

About the role:
Chelsea Physic Garden, a historic and much-loved botanical garden founded in 1673, is seeking a part-time Horticulture Team administrator to support its horticulture team for 2.5 days per week, typically across 3 days. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth running of horticultural operations, providing vital administrative support including procurement of plants, tools, and materials, maintaining accurate records and filing systems, managing supplier communications, assisting with scheduling, and ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures. Working closely with the Head of Plant Collections and wider team, the successful candidate will be highly organised, detail-oriented, and collaborative, playing a key behind-the-scenes role in maintaining the high standards of this historic garden and contributing to its continued legacy as a centre of plant science and conservation.

Gardener / Plant Records Manager

Position: Full time, 35 hours per week.

Salary: £28,477.

About the role:
Chelsea Physic Garden, a historic and much-loved botanical garden founded in 1673, is seeking a full time Gardener / Plant records manager. This role is blends practical horticulture in the garden 3-4 days a week alongside day-to-day plant record keeping for plant collections (Gardens, Glasshouses, Herbarium and Seed bank).

The candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of the Tree succession plan at the garden as well as practically maintaining day to day plant records. The post holder will have an opportunity to work with our in-house taxonomist and will be responsible for training specialist volunteers to support their work, such as label making.

If you have an eye for detail, are methodical in delivering processes, meticulous in your data management and have a desire to play an active role in the Horticultural Strategy please do apply.

In house training will be provided on the ‘house style’ of record keeping by your line manager, the Head of Plant Collections.

Horticultural Trainee

Applications are now open for our paid Horticultural Trainee – Eighteen months. 

Are you curious about plants and thinking of a career in horticulture? Then this role is for you. Apply via our website to join our friendly team.  

This paid traineeship will encompass eighteen months working alongside our team of experienced gardeners, volunteers and wider team of experts. The Trainee will have the chance to hone their practical skills within a historic botanical garden, alongside studying towards RHS level 2. The trainee will work outside in the garden and in our historic glasshouses with training and guidance from our horticultural team. 

The horticultural team work an average of 35 hours per week over five days. Working hours differ during the summer season (March-August) at 39 hours per week and the winter season (September-February) at 31 hours per week. Following training the post holder will take part in the roster of weekend working for which time off in lieu is given. The salary on appointment is £25,831 plus pension, employee welfare scheme, and more.  

This Traineeship has been made possible thanks to the support of the ERANDA Rothschild Foundation.

Schools and Families Officer 

Position: Part-Time (4 days per week), Fixed Term (Maternity Cover)

Salary: £27,500 per annum (FTE rate), Actual £22,000

Chelsea Physic Garden is seeking a part-time Schools and Families Officer (Maternity Cover) to deliver our engaging schools and families programme. We are looking for someone with a passion for outdoor learning, plant science, and inspiring people to connect with nature.

You will work closely with schools, home educators, colleges, and community groups to design and deliver high-quality, inclusive learning experiences for all ages. The role also involves creating digital resources to extend our reach, engaging both in-person and online audiences, and developing a dynamic programme of family activities for weekends, half-terms, and school holidays.

In addition, you will manage bookings, scheduling, and invoicing for our schools and families programmes, ensuring smooth delivery and a positive, lasting impact on our visitors.

Become a Horticultural Trainee

Chelsea Physic Garden has been offering horticultural traineeships for over two decades, providing people with the opportunity to gain practical horticultural experience across a biodiverse plant collection, whilst undertaking a professional qualification.

Typically, traineeships are aimed at entry level candidates with a basic level of professional or voluntary experience.

Our 2024/2025 Horticultural Trainees are generously supported by the Rick Mather and David Scrase Foundation.
