Grow Your Own: Oyster Mushrooms on Coffee Grounds

Friday 21 June 2024, 6pm-7pm

Growing oyster mushrooms on coffee grounds: A simple project to get you growing at home!

Grey Oyster mushrooms are natures recyclers and can grow on almost anything, including coffee grounds. Renowned for being formidable composters, the mycelium of the Oyster mushroom will grow on and through its food source, breaking it down and, turning it back into nutrients for nature to continue to thrive on.

Join the Caley Brothers team who will chat all things mushrooms, from the basics, and delve into other areas that mushrooms and fungi can now be found.

The Caley Brothers will demonstrate how you can grow your own mushrooms at home on reclaimed coffee grounds where you will witness the growing process of a mushrooms as it turns those used coffee grounds into its food source before sprouting a flush of stunning Oyster mushrooms.

As part of your ticket you will take home your own coffee kit so you too can get growing on your own coffee grounds or alternative substrate.

Caley Brothers:

Lorraine & Jodie

We are the Caley Brothers and we’re passionate about mushroom growing.  At the heart of our business is our farm located in Sussex where we grow a varied and seasonal range of fresh gourmet mushrooms. We have a green and sustainable approach to all areas of our business, striving to use only locally sourced materials, and recycling as we go.

As interest for mushrooms and mushroom growing continues, we have been privileged to work on an array of exciting projects bringing the topic of mushroom growing into the public realm.  More recently we won Gold for our debut display at the RHS Chelsea Flower show.  Where we showcased an array of edible mushrooms.

Alongside our farm we have developed both indoor and outdoor growing kits and creative projects.  Inspired by customer curiosity and the desire to share our growing journey. They continue to be a popular hit for first time growers, and anyone with an interest in mushrooms.
