Plants Have Secrets 2021

Digital Youth Project

In October we ran our first Plants have Secrets project. Young people learned about psychoactive plants and how to communicate what they learnt through films. They found out that psychoactive plants aren’t just illegal drugs. In fact, the plants used to make tea and coffee are also psychoactive. The participants made two different films about psychoactive plants. One group made a documentary with interviews and the use of voiceovers and animation. The other group told a story using satire. They made us laugh about the assumptions we have about plants. They also made us laugh at what we think about different people in society. Enjoy the two videos below.

Quotes from participants
What was your favourite day?

  • “My favourite day was Thursday when we did the filming because it not only promoted teamwork but it promoted creativity and it gave me a lot of confidence working with other people I don’t know.”

Tell us a new skill you learned.

  • “I learned how to use Adobe Premiere Pro, which I’ve always wanted to know but I never had the chance to actually learn it. Adobe is a long way away in my school course.”
  • “Are you doing this again? Can I come next time?” – a participant at the end of the activity week

This year’s project:

For this year participants will make a stop motion animation about plants.
